Terms of Use
For the Orzo app and Orzo Plus. Last updated: 13 October 2026
This is a translation for your convenience. The German version is the binding one; if the two differ, the German version prevails.
What this is about
These terms apply to the Orzo app and the Orzo Plus subscription. The provider is Brombach Technologies GmbH, Rheintalbahnstraße 35, 68199 Mannheim, Germany (“we”). Our further details are in the imprint, and how we handle data is in the privacy policy.
If you download Orzo from the App Store, Apple's standard licence agreement for apps also applies; on Google Play, the Google Play terms of service apply. The store's licence agreement governs how you may use the app; these terms add the rules for our service. Where the two conflict, the store's agreement applies in relation to Apple or Google.
Orzo is for people aged 16 and over.
What Orzo is
Orzo is a cooking app with Orzo, your cooking otter: it keeps track of your pantry, also from photos of your fridge, cupboard, freezer or receipt, suggests recipes from what you have, plans the week, keeps the shopping list for the whole household and guides you step by step while cooking. In the chat, Orzo answers questions, writes recipes to your wishes and turns posts from TikTok and Instagram into recipes.
For scanning, chat, Orzo's recipes, households and Orzo Plus, the app needs an internet connection and our server.
Orzo Plus
You can use much of Orzo for free, some features only with Orzo Plus; the app shows you which. Anyone who is a member of a household for which someone has Orzo Plus uses these features without a subscription of their own.
Offers and prices
Orzo Plus is available as a subscription with a fixed term, for example yearly or quarterly, sometimes with a free trial or a cheaper first year (the regular price applies after it). The app shows you which subscriptions, prices and trials are available to you before you sign up; they may change from time to time. A trial is only available once.
Prices include VAT, and the store shows them in your currency. The price the store shows at the time of purchase is what counts. If you sign up at a founder's price, you keep it as long as the subscription continues without interruption.
Trial
During a trial you pay nothing. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the paid subscription you chose starts automatically afterwards. Orzo reminds you two days beforehand, by notification if you have allowed them, otherwise in the app.
Renewal and cancellation
The subscription renews automatically for its term, so for one year or one month, until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time up to 24 hours before it expires in the settings of your Apple or Google account (in Orzo under “Manage subscriptions”). Orzo Plus then runs until the end of the paid period. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
Payment and refunds
Apple or Google handle the purchase and payment under their terms, including on the right of withdrawal and refunds. You request refunds there; for Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple or Google are the sellers in their stores, so you exercise any statutory right of withdrawal with them.
One subscription for the household
A subscription applies to one household with up to 6 people, to your first one without you having to choose; in the app you can move it to another of your households. Anyone who is a member there uses Orzo without a subscription of their own. If you or a member leaves the household, or the subscription ends, this access ends. Apple's Family Sharing does not apply to Orzo Plus; you share your household through the invitations in the app.
Households
Every household has an invitation code. Anyone who knows it can join as long as the household is not full. So only give the code to people you want to share your pantry, lists and meal plan with. All members see and change the pantry, shopping lists, meal plan and the household's cookbook. Whoever created the household can remove members and create a new code.
You are responsible for names, entries and everything you add to the household. Please nothing offensive or unlawful.
Recipes, scan and chat: please think for yourself
Scanning, chat, Orzo's recipes, recipes from posts and recipe pictures are created with AI models. They are often helpful, but not free of errors.
- Scan: recognition can misread foods, amounts and dates. Check your pantry before you rely on it.
- Allergies and intolerances: Orzo takes your information into account but cannot guarantee that a recipe is free of an allergen. If you have allergies, always check the ingredient list and the information on the packaging.
- Food safety: make sure yourself that meat, fish, eggs and leftovers are cooked through, kept cold and used in time. A passed best before date does not automatically mean the food has gone off, whereas a use by date is binding.
- Nutritional values are estimated from the ingredients. Orzo is not nutritional or medical advice.
- Kitchen appliances: steps for food processors, ovens or air fryers are suggestions; follow your appliance's instructions.
- Pictures for Orzo's recipes are AI generated and show what the dish could look like.
Content from others
If you share a post from TikTok or Instagram with Orzo, Orzo turns it into a recipe for your own cooking and names the creator as the source. Use such recipes privately and do not pass them off as your own. Orzo is not affiliated with TikTok or Instagram.
Fair use and your content
So that Orzo stays affordable and safe, there are daily limits per device, for example for scans, chat messages, new recipes and shared posts. In normal use you will not reach them. Please do not get around limits or the paywall, do not access Orzo or our server automatically and do not try to attack the app or the server. In case of serious violations we may block access.
What you enter, write or photograph remains yours. You allow us to store it, sync it with your household and have it processed by our service providers, as far as this is necessary for Orzo.
We grant you the simple, non-transferable right to use Orzo privately. Recipes, pictures, stickers and the otter are protected; you may use them for cooking and pass them on through the app's share features.
Availability and changes
We do our best to keep Orzo working at all times, but cannot rule out interruptions due to maintenance, faults or outages at our service providers. We keep developing Orzo and may change features, for example the AI models behind it. If we change Orzo Plus in a way that affects your access more than insignificantly, we will inform you in the app beforehand, and you can cancel the subscription (§ 327r BGB, German Civil Code).
Liability
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act and to the extent we have given a guarantee. For slight negligence, we are only liable if we breach an obligation whose fulfilment makes the use of Orzo possible in the first place and on which you may rely, and only for the foreseeable, typical damage. Your statutory rights in case of defects in digital products (§§ 327 ff. BGB) remain unaffected.
For Orzo from the App Store
If you got Orzo from the App Store, the following also applies:
- These terms are between you and us, not with Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for Orzo and its content.
- You may use Orzo on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the usage rules in the App Store terms.
- We are responsible for maintenance and support; Apple has no obligation to provide them.
- If Orzo fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you can notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price you paid. To the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims relating to Orzo, for example product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal requirements, consumer protection claims or claims of infringement of third party rights.
- You confirm that you do not live in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Comply with any third party terms that apply when you use the app, such as those of your mobile contract.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Final provisions
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, the mandatory protective provisions of the country where you live remain unaffected. If any provision is invalid, the rest remain valid.
We may change these terms for the future if laws, case law or features of Orzo change and the change is reasonable for you. We do not change the price or scope of a running subscription this way. We will inform you of changes in the app at least six weeks in advance. Changes to your disadvantage only apply to a running subscription from the next renewal; until then you can cancel.
We do not take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
